O NATJECANJU

ABOUT COMPETITION

Franjo Kuhač Music School in Osijek in its 100th celebratory year proudly launched and realized the project 100 Years of Piano in Osijek – Damir Sekošan Competition for Young Pianists. This initiative was undertaken in the spirit of tradition of our largest department: piano department, connecting the cultural events of croatian pianism and pianism in Osijek, which has been promoted over the years through events such as Darko Lukić Memorial.

Former students and colleagues of Professor Sekošan, enthusiastically gathered as a group, initiated and designed this Competition to motivate all piano educators and their students and also to express gratitude and respect to the person who symbolized pianism and piano pedagogy in Osijek and throughout Croatia. In 1976 Professor Sekošan has been credited for bringing piano education to students in Osijek by initiating the Regional Piano Department of the Zagreb Music Academy . Over the decades, he has raised numerous outstanding pianists and pedagogues who have then subsequently spread the roots of Croatian piano pedagogy both nationally and internationally.

The Competition is held biennially. The 1st edition of the Competition had an inter-county (national) character but this year it will have an international character. The city of Osijek will become a multi-day host to a large number of students and their teachers and offer numerous top-notch performances which will be open to the public every day of the Competition. The aim of this Competition is to encourage and gather together the most successful piano students and to place the Eastern Region of Croatia on the artistic map of nurturing the highest quality competitive pianism.

Welcome!

The Italian pianist Teresa Trevisan, born in the Venetian fortress of Palmanova, graduated “cum laude” and a special ministerial mention from the Music Conservatory “Giuseppe Tartini” in Trieste. Her teachers were Luciano Gante in Trieste and Aquiles Delle Vigne at the Ecole Normale de Musique “Alfred Cortot” in Paris, where she also became his assistant.
Both professors had a deep influence on her artistic and pedagogical development. However, her first piano teacher Maria Puxeddu contributed at a large extent to immerse her in the piano pedagogy since youth.
Teresa Trevisan was awarded various recognitions at national and international competitions and her concert performances took her to many venues in Italy and abroad, in Europe and USA. Always interested in Chamber Music, she attended the International Menhuin Academy of Gstaad and the International Academy of the Trio di Trieste in Duino.

Much of her artistic career was devoted to the piano duo ensemble, first with his brother Filippo and currently with Flavio Zaccaria, aiming at discovering a repertoire less known such as Reger (Web Concert Hall honorary mention in 2006) and Busoni for the 150°  anniversary of his birth in 2016.
After recording the opera omnia by Rachmaninoff and some CDs dedicated to Reger, the  Italian label Limen Music has recently released a DVD including the opera omnia for two pianos by Ferruccio Busoni. Following the project “In search of roots”, two more DVDs  were recently recorded for the same label with works by Max Reger, Bartok and Rachmaninoff.

Teresa Trevisan is currently full time piano professor at the Trieste Music Conservatory “Giuseppe Tartini”, as a winner of the last National State Competition.
Her experience as a pedagogue has led within the years many students to important recognitions and awards in national and international renowned competitions.
She frequently serves as a judge at numerous international competitions and regularly teaches piano and piano-duo masterclasses in many important European Universities and Academies (Albania, Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Finland, France, Great Britain, Ireland, Lithuania, Macedonia, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Turkey).

Teresa Trevisan was the artistic director of the International Piano Competition “Filippo Trevisan” and the International Music Competition “Città di Palmanova”. She is currently co-artistic director of the Radovlijca International Piano Competition.
